PASC Holds a Blast of a Picnic
This year's picnic overview:Article by Priya Mistry:
With an assortment of colorful decorations ranging from a string of balloons to streamers and flags, this year's picnic at Clark Regional Park in Fullerton was a potluck with style. Bright tablecloths, as well as an endless MP3 of Hindi tunes, added to the joyful attitude of attendees. Despite being the end of July, PASC was welcomed to the picnic with intimidating grey clouds that carried a cool breeze and a bit of humidity. However, once the clouds dispersed mid afternoon, the heat took its toll. Rows of scrumptious foods adorned several reserved tables. But, where there's food, there's a smoldering BBQ tended to by expert volunteers. Making the most out of our postponed picnic, we did have a great turn up of both new and old faces, and did manage to get some competitive games going. The usual three legged race has remained a child favorite until it met its match-the piñata. For the past two years our PASC tots have tested their strengths in order to possess a most prized possession-candy! This year even our “masi”s and “baa”s gave the piñata a smack (I must say that their strength is deceiving!) Games even included a female match of “tikari” with the Cuties Versus the Beauties. The men battled it out in an awesome game of cricket and a volleyball match without the proper ball. And between our teens, a quick game of prison break got the blood pumping. Even BINGO engaged the attendees in a game of luck, with chai in their hands and the prize money of $100 in their mind.
For a very late picnic in the year, PASC proved to pull off an impressive get together, but a picnic is incomplete without a little water to soothe the bloated bellies and the parched skin. The fight started off as the usual water balloon toss; however, this year the game didn't even last through one complete toss before the first attack. Within seconds the bucket filled with innumerable water balloons vanished, leaving a very wet youth. Our littlest members played a challenging sponge toss game, ending unsuccessfully, and ditched the rules to simply enjoy splashing water at one another. But the fight didn't end there. Whether you carried your weaponry in a cup, bottle, or in forms of ice, the battle left everyone drenched from head to toe. It was an amazing battle that ended the picnic with an ecstatic crowd. For a person who has been attending these picnics for continuous years, I feel that every year brings a new surprise to our organization that makes the event even better. Last year it was the change of location, while this year it was the super water fight. The PASC picnic of 2006 was simply a blast of fun.
